Cabin Fever

Spent the past weekend at my friend's, Nate, cabin. (well there's really 2 cabins and an outhouse) We've been goin to this cabin about once a year or so since I first met him back in college. Nate, Jeremy, Todd, Jeff, me and a rotating cast of misfits have frequented this escape for about 10 years. Things have changed since those first days, but fun is always had. And this time was no different. Of course all of us have gotten older, and some even married.

Nate's folks bought the cabin and the land around it since he and his brother were kids. And it suits their family's love of nature quite well. In fact his parents are now retired and living in southeast Arizona, once again in the bosom of nature on a piece of land. When I think of my expeiences with Nate and his family, it usally consists of me in pain and agony hiking somewhere wanting to call a helicopter for an emergency lift. Whether its Arizona or Arkansas.

Now when I say cabin, I mean no electricity & no running water. And most importantly nowadays, no digital signal for our celluar phones. The inhumanity of it all. As it was and so it still is. And we still keep coming back. Makes for a very unique experience we don't usually get from our hectic world.

Must admit though it's nice to have the wives come on the trip. They are much more thoughtful and prepared about bringing needed food and supplies. Typically when its been an all guys trip we burn a dead carcass and realize we don't have enough plates and utensils. And then we complain to each other and just get drunk. But not this time (well the food part anyways). We had bacon, eggs, orange juice, hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, bread and we even had fruits and homemade chutney!

How things have changed since that first trip out to the cabin.
