when worlds collide

in a couple of days, the batchelders will come back down to visit me. and this will be the first opportunity for my close friends to meet the other friends, derrick & andrew, who i have grown tight with. i have known the batchelders for almost 6 years as compared to less than a year with the guys. but they all share a common bond with me, which revolves a great deal of sincerity on their parts.

as adam has pointed out, i have shown a dual personality that is able to comfortably slip in & out of two seemingly polar opposites group of friends. on one hand there is the family life the batchelders represent. a stable and rigorous daily routine. revolving and self contained onto itself. a family life is for the most part predictable & regimented. one based alot on forwardness and planning. let's face it, it has to be. and on the other end of this spectrum is the single college life, where the daily routine is greatly in flux & fluid. living a typical college life is greatly dynamic. hectic one moment and practically dead the next.

i will look forward to spending what short time i have again with my good friends from missouri via ohio and maine. and to see the overlap & interplay between my two main group of friends should be interesting. in the past my separate group of friends never really mixed well. such was my experience in college. the person i presented myself to my friends back then was different in many respects depending on who i was with. i was quite the chameleon. i'm less compromising nowadays and present myself as i am without much pretense and not varying much from person to person. or at least i hope i do.

and so the question is will the new friendships i have formed with andrew & derrick run as deep as the one i have formed with adam & his family. time will determine that, but the prerequisites are present. the ebb & flow of any relationship is unpredictable even among friends.
