Go Stros!

It's been an unbelievable ride this year for my hometown baseball team, the Houston Astros, and it's still going. From pre-season favorites to win their division to a horrible swoon in the middle of the year to their current push in the National League championship. This team has been everything an ulcer laden, bipolar person loves to hate. Such is the price of team loyalty.

Today they play the St. Louis Cardinals leading the series 3-2, with the chance to play in the World Series for the first time ever in the history of the franchise. Granted their history does not run as long as the storied Yankees and Red Soxs, but for them to have never even have gotten out of the first round of the playoffs is a testament to the futile history of the ballclub. But they have already rewritten some of the team history by making it to the league championship. And with each new year brings new hope. And in a year of high ups and low downs, this may be the year for the team to make even more history. Dare we dream sometimes. If not then what is the point of being a sports fan.

I'm thankful the first home team I've ever cheered for is providing the city with a new sense of excitement.
