aggie rings

there are many wonderful traditions at my alma mater of Texas A&M. one of the more important ones is the aggie ring. almost every university has their version of a ring. and really its a glorified version of the trinkets we get in high school & wear for a scant few months. in hindsight my high school ring is one of the worse waste of money. but at the time it served a purpose. just don't ask me where it is anymore.



in many colleges around america a fancier and more unified version can be found. "unified"? well for many institutions of higher learning they have but one version or a limited selection for their students to pick from. it's not the smörgåsbord that you get to choose from in high school.

at A&M, there is only one design for the men and one design for the female. the only alternative to pick from is the gold type, shading type, and whether a diamond is to be placed in the ring. but the design is a universal one, whether you were in the class of 1945 or the class of 2007. the ring speaks across the changing times. the only difference then is the wear and tear of time itself. or as some ol'ags like to call it, "character."



last friday my two staff members, andrew & jessica, got their aggie rings. i couldn't help but be happy for them, and i got caught up in the moment as well. here at A&M it's a big deal. there are more A&M rings ordered every year than any other university. such is the loyalty& magnitude of the tradition of the school. to many it's more important than the actual diploma. Well at the very least i see my ring a millions times more than my diploma, which by the way is still in it's tube.

with the anticipation of them getting their rings, it made me remember the day i got my ring. it's one of those rare moments in life i have a good recollection of. in fact it is probably one of my most cherished memories at A&M. i still have the box it came in. and no matter what it is an accomplishment that is difficult for anyone to take away.
