advice

advice is a free commodity. even when we sometimes do not want it. i find it hard to give it unless asked. and when i do give some, it has the tendency to be broader in scope leaving room for interpretation. good advice is objective. everything else tainted with a personal view is support.

recently i've been on the receiving end of advice. some solicited and some not. there is always a fine line between advice and support. sometimes we look for one and not another. and a lot of that depends on our readiness to listen. i typically solicit opinions and ask for advice. having various perspective is desirable.

many times though whether intentional or not, in providing a narrative from which others can give advice and opinions, we tend to not flesh out the other end of the narrative. so even though we may be receiving objective advice, we more often than not manipulate the advice into some form of support.

i believe i always listen but heeding them is always another matter.
