Jérémy Maté

"Ships that pass in the night, and speak each other in passing, only a signal shown, and a distant voice in the darkness; So on the ocean of life, we pass and speak one another, only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence. " -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

there can be a sadness in family that i am familiar with. it is the sadness in having one of the members pass away without personally knowing them. my grandfather on my mom's side and both my grandparents on my dad's side have past away without a personal memory for me to share. an ocean separates my family with everyone else in our family. i had a little cousin, Jérémy Matéo, who i had met only but once and never the joy to know well. today he passed away after his fight with cancer. a fight that was never easy.

may the joy of his life, while short as it was, provide his family with some sense of comfort. for the only sadness is having him physically leaving the rest of us. otherwise we should celebrate just as our Lord celebrates the arrival of Jérémy Maté into his home.
